Fantastic created ad!

Faber Castell needed an artist to help them out with their new ad for their "artist pens". They asked Chan Hwee Chong, an art-director who lives in Hamburg, Germany, and works for Kolle Robbe design studio.

'We could go on and on about the Faber Castell Artist Pen’s precision and control, but we thought we’d just show you' - Faber Castell.

To create these works it took Chan 3 months. He needed precision and patience. If there is at least one mistake you must start the work all over again. By drawing circles and putting different pressure on the pen at different parts of the circles you get a visible image.

One word: Amazing!

The simplest ideas are often the best...

Post-it Note Watch!

I never had the habit of writing on my hands to remember things. Probably since I always managed to smudge of the ink in my face few seconds later... Anyway, there are some people who do write on their hands, and now there is a designer, Doriane Favre, who has come up with a solution to all of you: A post-it note watch!

Wearing it you will only risk to look like you have been to a strange festival recently or escaped from a hospital. By the way; remember to still keep track of time..!

Minimalist effect in the maximalist market

An interesting project by the multi-disciplinary design consultancy Antrepo.

"Our last project is about simplicity and we try to find alternate simple versions for some package samples of the international brands. We think almost every product needs some review for minimal feeling." - Antrepo

My opinion: Really interesting project where the results actually work very well with most of the products. Some of them I felt were a bit too simplified in the way they loose their identity, but most of them got a much better aesthetic look when they where simplified in stage 1 or 2 (and sometimes in 3 as well).
Hope not the creators of the original designs hate me for this...

Maybe the perfect time to quote Ludwig Meis van der Rohe: "Less is more"

What do you think?
1. Original variation
2. Simple variation
3. More simple variation
4. No logo variation

I have only one bad thing to say about this project, and that is their use of a black background to every picture. It's ok with some of the pictures, but not everyone. It really bugs me...

Uni Project: 'Free Shower'

A stunt done in Kingston centre, London, after a brief we were given at Kingston Uni:

The mission: For one day we had to visit several exhibitions in the East End of London and from that be inspired to stage our own art event that communicated something to passers-by. Or draw attention to something in the street environment wich we thought needed commenting on. We could do anything we liked as long as we made people notice.

Our idea: To create a big contrast to what you normally expect. We therefore turned a phone booth, which you think of as a not so clean space, in to a "shower". People reacted in some few different ways, but mostly we gave them all a great laugh. Great day :)

Idea-a-week; Dirty Money

- Huge washing machines to clean up all the dirty money (illegal income) in the world..

Uni Project; InDesign

We had introduction to InDesign this week. The brief said to find typographic design you thought were bad or good. I went on with one of those I thought was good. You had to analyse the design, identify the constituent parts and create a new piece of design that displays these elements in a clear, creative and informative way. You had to include the original piece (in my piece; the red, square one within the white frame), but the focus should be on the descriptive text and annotation.

My final piece focus on how your eyes read/follow a design, and how important supporting design elements are to strengthen the message it conveys. This is illustrated with the red line following down a path within a strict, yet dynamic frame. You find the overall annotations on the right hand side.
Format: W:357mm  H:420mm (a bit larger than an A3)
(I do apologize that it seem to be presented with a bad resolution)

How old did you say he was??

This is unbelievable. This 9 year old kid from England is creating paintings with quite a high quality in perspective and shading. He has had several exhibitions, were on the last one in Norfolk people camped outside the gallery to get in. He sold out all of his work within 10 minutes and earned about 90 000 pounds! Interesting to see how he is coming in the next 10 years... Keep up the good work kid!

Charming street art

I like this group of street artists approach to the world and how they use and communicate differently on mundane objects. Charming.
They call themself Mentalgassi.
Do also check out their video were they present their way of working.

Uni project; Space

Few weeks ago we were given an one week project as an introduction to Photography. The brief said to consider and interpret your personal view of 'space'. I had to develope a personal response, through exploring and evolving ways of describing, revealing, conveying and challenging what we perceive to be a space.
This became my result.

My space is visualising a certain feeling you get when you enter an enclosed space, in this case a small area of a park. When entering this kind of area, it's like making it your own for a short period of time. At this particular area there were trees and bushes enclosing the space, casting shadows over some few benches, and through the trees leafes there were sunbeams coming down in to the centre. You feel safe and relaxed. The world and time seem to pause for a moment. At the minute you leave this enclosed space it all breaks up and you start exploring the world again.
Because of this specific feeling, I wanted to name it 'The Comfort Zone'.

Calligraphy...with light!

Julien Breton aka Kaalam is a French-based, self-taught artist who does calligraphy works created with time-lapse photography! In other words; Three-dimensional shapes choreographed with light sticks. Did I mentioned that he is self-taught??

Amazone Arrival!

When I came home from uni today I felt like a little child on Christmas morning.
A package! For me!
Well, bought by me, wrapped by Amazone.
What was in it? A bunch of books I have wanted for a long time! Well, only 1/100 of all the books I want, but this should keep me busy for a while.

Information on these ones will come as I read them.

I also got this one at school; 'Walt Disney and Europe' by Robin Allan. As a child growing up with Disney movies I think it is really interesting now as a grown up (well..) to see them in a new, professionel way and enjoy the beauty of the illustrations once again.

It's a study of how Europe and European culture influenced Walt Disney and his artists in the making of the Disney animated feature films from 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' to 'The Jungle Book'.

Can't wait!

Quechua - 'We all need warmth'

Please, do watch this! It is a TV campaign for the brand Quechua, specializing in mountain sports. I absolutely loved how they used the double meaning of 'warmth'. Great choice of music and great pictures. Literally a warming movie.

The universal logo for Human Rights has been chosen!

Maybe a little embarrassing that I haven't seen this until now since it actually was revealed 23th September, but anyway this is the chosen universal logo for Human Rights; "Free as a man":

"From over 15,000 submission from more than 190 countries, people have chosen a winner. The Human Rights logo is an open source product, free to be used by everyone, everywhere - for the purpose of promoting and protecting Human Rights."

Great factors about this logo, I think, is that it is easy reconisable, simple and easy to draw / create by everyone. I also liked the combination of the bird and the hand. A good and creative way of using the positive and negative space.

My only problem with it is that the final logo seem a bit unfinished... But considering it was crowdsourced the result could have been so much worse!

It is made by the 32-year old Serbian designer Predrag Stakić and his words after winning the competition was:
“One logo can’t change the world, including this one. But this logo is a symbol which could gather people – and people can change the world”.
Well said.
