Normal pencils with a "tiny" difference...
Dalton M. Ghetti takes sculpturing to a new level by using the graphite of a pencil, and the pencil as a whole, to create these amazing art works. You have probably already heard of or seen the alphabet one that is exhibited at V&A's 'The Power of Making' in London (if you haven't, the exhibition will still be open until 2nd of June 2012!), but have you seen the rest of his work?
Let me give you some examples, along with the alphabet:
'His idea is to bring people’s attention to small things. Small is beautiful. Most of the pencils he uses are found on the streets and sidewalks. Dalton’s work is a recycling process. He turns discarded objects into art. (...) His pencil carvings are not for sale. He doesn’t do it for money. He sculpts pencils mostly for himself and his art comes from his heart. He wants to keep it that way.' - www.daltonmghetti.com

Uni Project: Justification
We did this project earlier this semester at Kingston Uni. Each group was given a typographic term, and my group was given 'justification'.
If you don't know what justification is you find the description of the term below, as the first part of the task:
The second part had to be a visual explanation to the term.
Our idea was to visualise the different sizes of spaces between each word in a paragraph from four newspapers and from that highlight the big differences that occur between each printed publication.
We were given some criteria for the solution:
- It had to be in black and white
- It had to be created from A4 papers
If you don't know what justification is you find the description of the term below, as the first part of the task:
'The manipulation of text, through the use of hyphenation and tracking, to exactly fit the width of a space yet still maintain legibility and visual harmony. Justified text is often used for publications like newspapers and books wishing to maximise available space, where the design cannot detract attention from the content.
When time is a constraint, justification is a popular option for its simplicity and speed, however it can result in unsightly hyphenation and "rivers" can be avoided resulting in an aesthetically pleasing and professional looking publication.'
The second part had to be a visual explanation to the term.

I need that car so bad! But not because of the car...
Ok, this adv is a bit clever and a bit funny, but does only work for the Norwegian audience. If you have followed some of the recent absurd news lately, you might have read that we have a "butter crisis" in Norway. Probably because of the LowCarb-HighFat mania. This is hilarious.
The translation from the Norwegian sentence is: "Buy Audi R8 in December and get 500g butter for free."
Brilliant.
Found in a Norwegian newspaper called VG.

Know your limits!
This is a great campaign in how parents should know their own limits in the holiday season.
A lot of children fear the Christmas holiday because they witness their parents getting way to drunk. If you are a parent, please think twice before you pour another glass of wine...
The translation to what it finish of with: "Think about who you are drinking with."

Dripp Dropp...
Taking photos of water drops could almost be a cliché, but Kiki Plumier aka EvasionK from Belgium still amaze me with her beautiful, delicate composed photos!

"It can be fun to save energy!"
Norwegian ad for Hafslund to encourage people to save energy!
Unfortunately I can't find out who the designers is...
Translation for the main text in the midle in the end:
"Invite for dinner, take a shower together or sleep in your pajamas"
Seriously, I can't see how sleeping in your pajamas can be fun, but hey! I like the video, but think that they could have pushed it a bit further..

A wonderful, new world. Only, it doesn't exist...
I love the dream world of 'Alice in Wonderland'!
These art works reminds me a bit of that mysterious opening to another world that actually doesn't exist. They are tiny 3D dioramas, and when placed in galleries they are inserted in to the walls and magnified through glass. Hope I will see this live one day.

Can I have one, pleeease?
When I grow up I will have a nice house with a nice garden and with this nice thing hanging in a nice apple tree, so I can rest nicely. Yes.
I wish I could have seen this installation live...
"Site specific installation by SOFTlab
CHROMAtex.me was installed at the bridgegallery in the Lower East Side of New York City from September 2010 through October 2010. It was constructed of 4,416 panels of high gloss photo paper. Each panel is a specific color and geometry to fit its unique placement within the larger form. The entire structure was held together with 17,000 standard office supply binder clips."
Soymamelle
Interesting packaging design created by the Russian agency KIAN:
"The developed conception of the package shape resembled an udder,
which presents the first half of the message in that soy milk isidentical to that of a cow. The second part of the message is delivered
via the colour score and décor of the packaging, which concentrate on
the phytogenesis of the product, creating an image of nature and health."
I would liked to 'pimp' up my fridge with this one, if I only hadn't been allergic to soya milk... Yes, I am allergic to soya milk.
